Open IIT Chess 2019 Final Standings

Open IIT chess 2019, has finally been concluded, with loads of bloodshed and triumphs of new talents! The podium finishers are:
Gold: Koustav Chakraborty with 7 points (7W, 0L, 0D)
Silver: Gaurav Madkaikar with 6 points (6W, 1L, 0D)
Bronze: Ritesh Kumar Singh with 5.5 points (5W, 1L, 1D)
Three contestants, Nitheesh PothireddyShakti Prasad Nanda and Ritesh Kumar Singh tied for the 3rd place with 5.5 points. However, Ritesh held his nerves of steel in the heated situation and emerged victorious in the Blitz tie breakers to bag the bronze medal. Nitheesh and Shakti were placed 4th and 5th respectively.
We extend our heartiest congratulations to all the position holders, as well as all the participants who fought till the last to goback contented.

Inter Hall Chess 2019 Final Results

The fight for the inter-hall chess championship comes to an end with Azad Hall winning the first position. The competition was fierce, as all the halls gave their best.
The top three standings are as follows:
1. Azad Hall- 4.5/6
2. MS Hall- 4.5/6
3. RK Hall- 4/6
The positions for teams with the same points were decided using the tiebreakers. It is worth mentioning that RP Hall and Patel Hall also had the same points as that RK but tiebreaker declared RK as third.
Cheers to all the winning teams and other teams don't get dishearted. Next time fight even stronger.

Inter IIT Chess Meet 2015

Best 4 people from Open IIT would be representing IIT Kgp Chess Team in Inter IIT Chess Meet (organized in parallel with 51st Inter IIT Sport Meet) at IIT Madras.

15-19th December 2015 hosted by IIT Madras Chess Club
Schedule and format-
1.Format(swiss system or round robin) will be decided later depending on the number of participating teams.It will be mailed to the participants as soon as we close the registration.
2.It will be team championship with each IIT represented by 4 players.
3.Games will be played from 15th December onwards until 19th,with some days having only 1 round while some days will have 2 rounds(maybe all days will have 2 rounds!) depending on number of participating teams.
4.Most of the Participants have to reach  IIT Madras by 14th,however if 1 or 2 members of the team have some project or intern,it is ok if they reach in time for the 1st round on 15th.It is  requested that the participants arrive along with their contingent of the inter IIT sports meet,so that they can get adjusted to the environment and our co-ordinators can show them the way to the playing hall and mess.
5.Whatever may be the schedule of games,the prize distribution will be at 6pm,on 19th December.Participation certificates will also be given at that time.The players can make arrangements to leave accordingly.We may also have to keep 2 rounds on the last day.
Rules and regulations-
1.The inter IIT chess meet is not connected to the inter IIT sports meet .It is an independent event organised by a student’s club of IIT Madras at the same time as the inter IIT sports meet for obvious reasons.
2.The time control will be 90 minutes per player for the whole game with an increment of 30 seconds per move from move number  1.
3.Writing the score sheet is mandatory.
4.The latest FIDE Laws of chess shall be followed.
5.The expected arbiter is former national sub-junior champion, and head of Chess Mate ,Mr Arvind Aaron.He has also played and won against former world champion Vishwanathan Anand and he is the son of India’s first International Master,Manuel Aaron.
6.The arbiter decision shall be final and binding in case of any dispute.
7.The issue of mobile phone and other electronic devices being allowed in the playing hall shall be discussed in the players meeting along with some other things
Registration,food and accommodation-
1.The entry form  has been attached along with the same mail.Four copies of the entry form have to be made,filled up with details of respective players,scanned and mailed to the Students Gen Sec of IIT M-the same mail id from which the entry forms were obtained.All four forms should be sent in a single mail.Players  please give correct mail id as all the information shall be communicated  to the players through mail once the registration is completed.The last date to send your entry by mail is 22nd November(Sunday).Entries after 22nd November shall not be accepted.
2.The arrangements for the food and accommodation shall be same as the inter IIT sports meet.However,since chess is an independent event,we cannot assure that you will be staying in the same hostel as your main contingent.It may be the case that all participants of chess shall be in a different hostel.
3.An amount of Rs 500/- per person per day shall be charged for the above.This is the same amount that is being collected for the inter IIT sports meet.Kindly make the arrangements for this sum from your respective institutes.
Prizes-
1st Rs 8000/- + Gold Medals + Trophy
2nd Rs 6000/- + Silver Medals
3rd Rs 4000/- + Bronze Medals.
Board prizes on each board Rs 500/- each.
Participation certificates to all participants.
